Registration FAQs

1. How do I enroll in online access?

To enroll in online access, go to the GMAC Mortgage homepage and select Enroll. This link appears below the text View Your Mortgage Account. Then, we'll walk you through setting up your online account.

2. How does online access work?

At GMAC Mortgage, we care about protecting your online accounts, so we use a multi-step login to help keep your accounts safe. Our login helps assure you that you're visiting the valid GMAC Mortgage website.

Our login helps you recognize that you're at the valid GMAC Mortgage site by presenting an image and phrase you have selected during enrollment, and helps us recognize you as the true owner of your account by validating your user name, password, and the computer(s) you have registered with us. See More Details

If we don't recognize your computer, we won't show your image and phrase, instead we'll present challenge questions you'll need to answer to Login. When you answer correctly, your trusted image and phrase appear.

3. What are cookies, and how do we use them?

A cookie is a collection of information stored on your local computer that helps to identify your computer. We place a cookie on your computer when you leave the "register this computer" box checked during enrollment or when answering challenge questions. The cookie contains a randomly generated, unique number used as an identifier. When you login after enrollment, your web browser sends us this cookie, which lets us know that you're using your own computer. The cookie is visible only to the GMAC Mortgage site and does not contain any personal information.

If you keep having to answer the challenge questions even though you leave the "register this computer" box checked, visit your web browser's toolbar to change your cookie settings. Under Tools, select Internet Options and allow cookies. Some web browsers may have cookies blocked as a default.

4. What are Flash Shared Objects, and how do we use them?

Flash Shared Objects are similar to cookies in that we also use them to identify your computer if you register it with us. This helps us make your Login experience as quick and convenient as possible.

5. How do I know that I am on the real GMAC mortgage site?

After you enter your username, but before you enter your password, we'll present your trusted image and phrase or challenge questions that you have set up with us. When you see your image and phrase, it is safe to enter your password.

6. How do we hinder hackers from getting into my accounts?

If you or an unauthorized person tries to login to your account from an unregistered computer, or we detect odd login habits, we'll show challenge questions instead of your trusted image and phrase. Without the correct answers, unauthorized users won't be able to enter the password to access your account.

7. What are challenge questions and why do I need them?

Challenge questions help us identify you when you try to login to your mortgage account. If someone steals your username and password, challenge questions provide an additional preventive measure to keep them from accessing your account. When you enroll you will set up your challenge questions and answers.

8. What is a trusted image and phrase?

A trusted image and phrase help you verify that you are on a real GMAC Mortgage site. When you enroll you will select a unique image and phrase. When you login at GMAC mortgage.com, we will only show you image and phrase you selected. If you're at a different computer, one that is not registered, we will ask you a challenge question before we present your image and phrase. Never provide you password or other personal information if you do not see your image and phrase.

9. How do I access my GMAC Mortgage online from multiple computers?

You may use multiple computers to login and access your mortgage account online, even computers that are not registered. When you login from unregistered computers, we won't show your trusted image and phrase, instead we'll present your challenge questions.
Once you answer your challenge questions correctly, we will ask whether or not you want us to register that computer. It will default to yes. If you leave it as Yes, you won't need to answer a challenge question from that computer the next time you use it.
Don't register public computers, for example, ones that you use in airports and libraries. This helps keeps your personal settings safe and protected.

10. How do I share access with another user in my home?

An unlimited number of people can access their accounts from the same computer in your home. Each user will need to login once and answer their challenge question. Once this happens we will ask whether or not you want us to register that computer. It will default to yes. If you leave it as Yes, you will not need to answer a challenge question from that computer the next time you use it.

11. How do I change or reset my trusted image, phrase, or challenge questions?
